Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflection

Fountain of Tears by Silvio Apponyi

A seat is provided here just for reflection. The fountain is a memorial to the “Stolen Generation“. At the top is a carrying dish called a Coolamon and it represents all the babies and children taken from their parents on the presumption they would have a “better life” in white man’s culture. The faces represent all the family members mourning the loss of their children and the flowing water represents the tears which flowed from everyone affected.

It is a very special place to sit and reflect. You can find more information here: http://www.mitchamcouncil.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=1249

I’m a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, auntie and friend. I prefer to be outside and am interested in photography, nature and different cultures. I believe everything on this earth has a right to be here but some things and some people would be happiest if their space was far away from mine. (Flies and biting bugs take note!) I don’t like housework and think dust is Nature’s way of saying, “This is my space, I was here first.”

  1. Worst of all, I think, is that mistakes are repeated. “The War the end all wars” is probably the best example. Here in Australia though I don’t believe any government will ever take children away from caring, loving families again.

So, what do you think?
